HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The No. 2 Rainbow Wahine water polo team cruised to a 14-7 victory over No. 3 UC Davis Saturday in Long Beach to advance to the Big West Tournament championship game.

Hawaii (17-5) will go up against No. 1 UC Irvine on Sunday - a rematch of last year’s title game.

The ‘Bows were led Irene Gonzalez’s six goals, tying a career-high and a Big West Tournament single-game record in the process.

Gonzalez scored two of her goals in the opening period of play to go up 3-0 before the Aggies tied things up. In the second period, Hawaii’s offense was humming, scoring three-straight goals to go up 6-2.

In the second half, the Wahine outscored UC Davis 8-3 to close out the game.

In addition to Gonzalez's six goals, Maxine Schaap, Lemay-Lavoie and Carmen Baringo each tallied two goals apiece.

Goalkeeper Molly DiLalla recorded five saves and one steal en route to victory.

The Wahine will take on UC Irvine on Sunday at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center. First sprint is slated for 11:00 a.m. HT.
