HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Rainbow Warrior outside hitter Stijn van Tilburg was named the AVCA Player of the Week after guiding the Warriors past Long Beach State in the Big West Tournament title game this past weekend.

The Netherlands native tallied a match-high 25 kills against the 49ers, hitting .543 to give Hawaii its first-ever conference championship. The senior standout also tallied nine kills, one ace and four digs in UH’s semifinal win over UC Irvine.

The award is the third for a Hawaii player this season, the most of any team. It’s also the 24th AVCA Player of the Week honor in program history.

The Warriors are the No. 1 seed in next week’s NCAA Tournament and will face either USC or Lewis on Thursday, May 2 at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.
