HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Welcome to Ko Olina, Nelly Korda.
The 20-year-old phenom out of Florida made a statement in the first round of the 2019 LOTTE Championship Wednesday afternoon, taking the lead at -9 after a birdie on her last hole of the day to leapfrog Eun-Hee Ji for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Today also marked Korda’s first time playing in the LOTTE Championship and in Hawaii.
While Korda’s day was worth noting, Ji had had a strong round herself, leading for the majority of the afternoon at -8 after recording six birdies on the back nine and zero bogeys through 18 holes.
Last year’s champion Brooke Henderson made some noise in Round 1 and is currently T-3rd going into Thursday after going three-under par.
