HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Our Hawaiian word of the day is “Ho’ailona.” The word Ho’ailona can be defined as a sign, a marker or an omen.
Used in a sentence “E kilo aku i ka lani no na ho’ailona,” which translates to “Observe the signs in the heavens.” Keen observers can notice ho’ailona in cloud formations to foretell if a storm is near or if good weather is expected.
The word ho’ailona is also use to describe symbols like our Hae Hawai’i, our Hae Hawai’i is a ho’ailona or a symbol of progress, peace, unity and aloha.
