HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii men’s basketball team struggled to start the game offensively and couldn’t regain its footing in a 79-61 loss at UC Santa Barbara.
The Gauchos (18-8, 7-5 B]WC) snapped a three-game losing streak, and with the win, ties the Rainbow Warriors (16-10, 7-5 BWC) for third in the Big West on Conference standings.
The home team led for most of the game, as UH missed 10 of its first 12 shots and got behind 17-4 to start the game. A deficit that would prove to be to much at the Thunderdome.
UH shot 30 percent in the first half and trailed by 11 points heading into halftime.
The spark offensively was provided by UH forward Zigmars Raimo, who led the Warriors in scoring with 15 while Drew Buggs added 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The Gauchos shot a sizzling 50 percent for the game and beat UH on the glass via a 35-27 margin.
UCBS’s defense forced 16 Hawai’i turnovers on a night where they shot just 29 percent from beyond the arc.
The Rainbow Warriors will stay in the Golden State when for it’s upcoming match-up against Cal Poly at Mott Gym on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. HT.
