HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - HONOLULU—The Hawai’i softball team made it back-to-back wins at the Les Marukami Stadium beating Canisius 4-1 on the opening night of the Hawai’i Invitational tournament.
UH pitcher Izzy Dino earned the complete game win and Callee Heen maintained her hot hitting streak going 2-3 with a pair of RBI’s.
UH’s Dino gave up just one run in seven innings of work in her first time throwing a full game, her previous high was six innings against St. Mary’s earlier this season.
UH led after four innings, 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth UH added another run to take a 4-1 lead when Nicole Lopez drove a a double down the leftfield line. She then advanced on a wild pitch and then scored on Heen’s second RBI-single of the night.
Canisius Emily Nicosia took the loss, throwing five innings allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The Hawai’i Invitational tourney will continue through tomorrow, as Hawai’i will play the last two games of the night against DePaul at 5:00 and New Mexico at 7:00 pm.
