HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 2019 Texaco/HHSAA Wrestling State Championships concluded at the Blaisdell center this evening with the Kamehameha Warriors taking home both the boys and girls team state titles.
The Kamehameha Kapalama boys ended the evening with 228.5 points, 74 points better then runner-up Punahou.
The boys were led by Warrior junior Kysen Terukina, who recorded his third consecutive state title, defeating Saint Louis’s Elijah Ka’awa in a rematch of the ILH 126 lbs final.
Terukina’s teammate Ashley Gooman also won her third state title over Pearl City’s Makana Cooper at 122 lbs avenging a runner up finish from 2018.
The lady Warriors finished the night with 219 points defeating Baldwin (172.5) and Moanalua (144.0) to secure the state title on the women’s side.
History was made later in the evening when Leilehua’s Kelani Corbrett won her fourth consecutive state title, this one at 168 lbs. She is now just the fifth girl in state history to win a individual state wrestling crown every year and is the first four year state champion at Leilehua high school for any sport.
