KAKAAKO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kakaako is sporting some cool, new duds.

For a ninth year, artists from around the world have converged on the community to show off their unique styles with huge murals on the sides of buildings.

The event ― called POW! WOW! ― is now a big attraction, too.

And it’s gone worldwide, too, with similar festivals now held across the United States and Asia.

Artist Beethoven Sausal was invited to participate in the Kakaako event for a second time this year.

He said the event lets artists trade cultures and share stories with one another.

“Not everyone get’s a chance to paint on a big wall for everyone to see," Sausal said.

“POW! WOW! is a big deal because it invites a bunch of artists all over the world. There’s a lot of collaboration and trading cultures going on so we really get to share our stories with each other.”

And every year, things change up.

For the past nine years, different artists paint over the murals created from the artists from the year before.

Here’s a look at what some of the dozens of new murals look like in this year’s POW! WOW!
