MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - One person died and another was listed in critical condition after two separate ocean incidents on Maui over the weekend.

The two incidents happened within hours of each other.

Authorities responded to Red Sands Beach in Hana around 4 p.m. Sunday.

A man was swimming when he became distressed and unresponsive. Officials said bystanders brought him to shore where CPR was administered.

Emergency crews responded shortly after but they were unable to revive him.

He was pronounced dead and later identified as 35-year-old Evan Zinner of Hana.

About four hours earlier in the day, emergency responders were dispatched to Po’olenalena Beach Park in Makena.

There, a 51-year-old female from Canada was reportedly rolled by a wave while snorkeling.

She was brought to shore where she went unresponsive.
