HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Saturday night, fans and friends came together to remember and celebrate the life of the late DJ, Christa Wittmier.
Wittmier was a popular DJ and Honolulu-based blogger.
She was remembered for her upbeat spirit at an event at the Republik. Friends refused to call the gathering a funeral, but rather a “party.”
“We’re not doing a public funeral. This is the public party that we’re having instead of that. And it’s really just a way to reminisce and to remind each other and ourselves what made Christa so special,” organizer Flash Hansen said.
The event was complete with musical performances and a song written just for her.
She was known as “Super CW.” Wittmier was a fixture in the Honolulu nightlife scene. Friends say she inspired others with her positive spirit and zest for life.
“The one thing that she did through every stage of her life, is she infused everything with joy. And that’s what I’ll always remember about her,” Actor and friend Daniel Dae Kim said.
In 2015, Wittmier learned she had stage 4 breast cancer.
She died in January at the age of 43.
The event at the Republik also featured a sneak peek at an upcoming documentary about her life and cancer diagnosis.
All proceeds from the event are going to benefit her family and the Aloha Cancer Project.
