HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -Southern Airways announced Tuesday it has acquired Mokulele Airlines.

The details of the acquisition weren’t immediately clear.

Southern says it plans to keep the Mokulele brand while eventually operating all flights on the Southern Airways FAA operating certificate.

The airline says the deal would make Southern the largest commuter airline operator in the nation.

The deal is reportedly the airline’s third in the last four years.

Southern Airways is well established in the Gulf South, mid-Atlantic and South Florida.

Their fleet is comprised of Cessna planes, similar to those of Mokulele.
