HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man was found dead around 1:15 p.m. Friday in a single-vehicle crash in Central Oahu.

Honolulu police say the scene of the crash was located just off of Leilehua Golf Course Road in an unimproved forest area near Mililani Technology Park.

A 26-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the Toyota Sedan at the time.

Sources have identified the man as former police officer, Javier Santiago Jr.

Prior to the accident, Honolulu CrimeStoppers alerted the public that Santiago was classified as missing, and last seen at the Mililani Mauka Shopping Center.

Police say speed may have been a contributing factor as the vehicle veered off the road.

HPD says this is the 9th traffic fatality this year compared to 6 during the same time last year.

This investigation is ongoing.
