HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Former OHA trustee Rowena Akana must pay more than $23,000 in fines for accepting legal fees from Hawaiian heiress Abigail Kawananakoa and misusing her annual office allowance.

The state Ethics Commission hit Akana with the fine in a lengthy decision released Wednesday.

Only four of the 53 counts against her were thrown out.

The biggest fine Akana has been ordered to pay ― of 17-thousand ― was for repeatedly using her trustee allowance to pay her personal cable bill.

The case has also been sent to the attorney general for more investigation.

Akana’s attorney said she is very disappointed in the decision and will appeal.<40>
