HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Rainbow Warrior basketball head coach Eran Ganot said it best after his team’s 75-54 loss to UC Santa Barbara Saturday night - they were outplayed.
Led by freshman Amadou Sow’s 20-point, 11-rebound double-double, the Gauchos dominated the Warriors in the second half after a tightly-contested opening 20 minutes of play.
UC Santa Barbara guard Max Heidegger also found his shooting stroke, scoring 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting including 3-of-5 from downtown.
Hawaii (13-8, 4-3 BWC) surrendered a 16-0 run to UC Santa Barbara in the second half that it recovered from. The loss marked the worst loss at home since the ‘Bows joined the Big West.
Forward Samuta Avea led the Warriors in scoring off the bench with 13 points and six rebounds while Zigmars Raimo added 10 points of his won.
As a team, Hawaii shot 37.7 percent from the field including 22.7 percent (5-for-22) on from long-range.
With the loss, the Warriors will hit the road to take on Long Beach State on Thursday, February 7. Tip-off is set 5:00 p.m. HT.
