HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - There are good games, there are great games, and then there’s what Kukilakila Kahalekai did on Wednesday night.
The Nanakuli senior guard recorded 61 points leading the Golden Hawks to a 82-41 victory over the Bulldogs.
Kahalekai has had some big games this season and currently leads the state in scoring with a 26.2 per game average.
The senior told Hawaii News Now he had a good feeling heading into the game but surprised even himself.
“The whole day I was thinking about the game,” Kahalekai said. “I didn’t know how good of a game I was going to have but I knew I was going to go off.”
Nanakuli head coach Wes Pacheco has been around basketball for nearly 20 years and could not believe what he was watching.
“You see it a lot in the NBA and college guys,” Pacheco said. “But to see it happen at the high school level is amazing."
The Golden Hawks will next be in action against Waipahu this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Nanakuli high School.
