WASHINGTON D.C. (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tweeting out his decision Wednesday night, President Donald Trump says the State of the Union address is now on hold.
He took to Twitter saying “I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over" and that he was no longer searching for an alternative venue to give the address in “because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi previously advised the president to hold off on the nationwide address due to security concerns brought forth by the shutdown.
Earlier in the week, President Trump indicated his intentions to deliver the address from a new venue after Speaker Pelosi denied him use of the House Chamber.
While the bickering over the address played out, thousands of federal workers across the nation, including those here in Hawaii, continued to work without pay as the shutdown stretched into its fourth week.
