HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Makaha’s own Yancy Medeiros returned to the cage for the first time in a year, but couldn’t seal his UFC return with a victory after losing to lightweight contender Gregor Gillespie via second round TKO (strikes).
Medeiros and Gillespie fought on the main card of ESPN’s debit card on ESPN+ in Brooklyn and while Medeiros made Gillespie work for every takedown he secured, the fight was never in doubt for the New York native.
Gillespie’ s wrestling was the key to victory over Medeiros and is now 6-0 in the UFC, 13-0 overall in his MMA career. He didn’t do much damage in the first round but as the second round came to an end, Gillespie was able to get Medeiros’ back and land some ground-and-pound until the referee intervened.
Medeiros falls to 6-6 in his UFC career with the loss.
