LOS ANGELES (HawaiiNewsNow) - In Hawaii, when food tastes so good, we say “Broke Da Mouth!”
But in Los Angeles, a restaurant called “Broken Mouth” just landed atop a very special list.
The eatery was listed as one of Yelp’s top five best restaurants in the country.
The restaurant is owned and operated by former Kaimuki resident and Maryknoll grad Timothy Lee. He opened the business 15 months ago.
On the menu, he serves up all the island favorites: Chicken katsu, loco moco, meat jun, and many others with a twist.
“Hawaiian food in general, people have this perception, it’s just really heavy lower grade. But when people give it a chance, they become regulars. My portions are lighter. I made it more L.A. gluten-free. I use high quality ingredients,” Lee said.
The Portuguese sausage eggs and rice is apparently a favorite for some reality TV stars who are regulars.
Timothy’s first cooking job was at Zippy’s and he grew up eating Korean food at his family’s restaurant Sorabol.
