HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Washington native Matt Kuchar is this year’s Sony Open champion.
Kuchar entered Sunday’s final round in first place and despite an up and down start to the round, he finished strong on the back 9 to finish 4-under through 18 holes.
He posted an impressive -22 for the tournament, and received a check for a grand prize of $1.152 million.
The win was Kuchar’s second victory on the season and his 258 total score over the weekend was the third-lowest total in Waialae Country Club history.
“I want to see how great this year can be,” Kuchar said. “To have won two out of three starts on the PGA TOUR is mind boggling to me. It absolutely sets up the year to be in great position for the FedExCup. There is a lot of year left and a lot of great things that are out there to be done.”
