HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Thousands of federal workers in Hawaii didn’t get a paycheck Friday as the government shutdown drags on.

To help in the short-term, several Hawaii banks have announced they’re offering special programs to federal workers.

Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank, and Central Pacific Bank are offering payment deferral programs for eligible federal workers.

They also have special personal loan programs for affected workers.

Bank of Hawaii and First Hawaiian offer up to $5,000, while CPB offers up to $8,000.

Customers of American Savings Bank will also have loan payment and relief options available.

Several other banks are also offering assistance through the shutdown.

Customers are advised to speak directly with their bank to see what’s available.
