HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Electric Company crews will be conducting an urgent utility pole replacement Thursday morning.
The work will force the closure of a portion of the Likelike Highway in both directions between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The pole replacement will occur near Emmeline Place. HECO says because the pole supports power lines that cross over all lanes of Likelike Highway, the highway will need to be completely closed in that area.
“Kaneohe-bound motorists will be stopped at Nalanieha Street, at which point they may detour though Kalihi Valley and rejoin Likelike Highway at Valley View Drive. Access into and out of Emmeline Place can be coordinated with special-duty police officers," HECO said.
Motorists are being advised to use the Pali Highway or the H-3 Freeway.
In Kaneohe, heading to Honolulu, Likelike Highway will be completely closed after the H-3 exit to Honolulu.
Officers will help direct traffic in the area during the work.
