HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -Maui County is officially under new leadership after an inauguration was held Wednesday.
Sworn into the role of Maui County Mayor was former councilman Mike Victorino. He takes over the office previously held by Alan Arakawa.
During his campaign, Victorino ran of the platform of “collaboration,” and he echoed it in brief remarks during his inauguration speech.
“I am your mayor. I’m here to serve all of you. I’m not here just to serve one group or another. We’ve got to work collaboratively. I reach out to the council because I need them to help me do the job for the people of Maui county.”
Victorino added that it would take a village to make Maui county a better place to live.
“I’ve said it many times. I’ll say it again. It’s not about me. It’s about we, the people,” he said.
Members of the Maui County Council were also sworn in Wednesday.
