HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - HECO restored power to some 8,630 customers across Oahu this afternoon.

Hawaiian Electric experienced two power outages across different Oahu communities. HECO tweeted that 6,290 customers in Wahiawa, Waialua, Mililani, Waimea and Kahuku lost power at noon Thursday.

By 12:10 p.m. power was restored to 1,990 customers. Power returned in waves to customers on the North Shore and central Oahu as crews made repairs. HECO restored power to all North Shore and central Oahu customers at 3 p.m.

HECO said the outage was caused by a problem with some of the substations in Waialua. HECO restored power to these customers by switching circuits as they continue to determine the cause of the outage and work to repair the original problem.

A separate outage at about 1 p.m. knocked out power to about 2,300 customers in Makaha. Power was restored to all Makaha customers at 2:40 p.m.
