Trade winds have returned to the islands just in time for the weekend! Conditions should be a lot more comfortable and generally dry for most of the weekend, with only isolated showers for windward areas. Generally, the humidity will be falling as we welcome Fall. Autumn officially arrived just before 4 PM today. On Sunday, the winds begin to shift and things will start feeling more muggy.
The trade winds won't stay very long and that will mean humid weather returns. There's a low pressure system forming to the northwest of Kauai that will bring a light southeasterly flow and an increased chance for afternoon showers, along with another round of hot and humid weather into much of next week. That means another round of HEAT and MUGGY weather.
A south swell is on the way down, but slowly. Rough surf with some chest-high sets are still possible for east shores. We could get our first big northwest swell of the season late next week that could get near advisory levels. Because of increasing trade winds, a Small Craft Advisory is posted for coastal waters around Maui County and the Big Island.
