HONOLULU (KHNL) - It's something the Punahou girls basketball team has heard all year, there's no Kuehu twins to lead them to back to back State titles.
"We don't have a dominant post player, and we don't have someone like Shaena who can keep running, but i think the thing that is keeping us successful is to keep focusing on the little things," said senior guard Janelle Nomoura.
Little things like boxing out since they don't have the presence of Shawna, and working hard together. So far it's paid off, the Buffanblu are the top ranked team in the tournament, earning a first round bye.
"We try to take responsibility for every little thing, so we try to focus on small things and not the big things, so it keeps us striving," said senior guard Rebecca Lau.
Despite their past success in the tournament, and throughout this season, the team is staying humble and focused on what got them here in the first place.
"I think the biggest thing is continue to be selfless, share the basketball, make the extra pass and trust your teammate that they can succeed," said Buffanblu head coach Mike Taylor.
The Buffanblu say they're practicing hard to stay sharp.
the team last played on the 14th, meaning 10 days will have gone by before they play their first game of the tournament.
but on Wednesday will the team come out well-rested or well-rusted?
"Well rested," said Lau. "We'll be ready."
