Kahuku (KHNL) - The superstitions of Friday the 13th had no effect on LPGA "rookie" golfer Michelle Wie. The Punahou alum shot a 2-under 70 on Friday putting her in a tie for first with Angela Stanford at eight under par.
Wie began the day from the 10th tee and quickly sank a birdie putt to begin the day, but she bogeyed on the next hole to bring her back to even.
During one stretch on the back nine, she did string together three birdies in a row, however, she also missed some fairly routine putts.
With her round, Wie is only 18 holes away from what could be her first career victory, but she's trying not to focus on that.
"It'd be great, I just don't want to get that ingrained into my head just yet, I feel like everyone's been asking me that and there's still a day left, but I just want to do the same thing, play as hard as I can, and obviously it would mean a lot, so I just want to keep having fun out there," said Wie.
She also said the conditions were tough to play in as the wind gusted up to 40 miles per hour today. Gust are expected to continue on Saturday. Wie is scheduled to tee off at 10:50am from the first tee. She will be paired with Angela Stanford and Angela Park.
