Department of Health says grounded ship spilled sewage

PEARL HARBOR (KHNL) - The USS Port Royal may be free from rock and sand near the reef runway, but the Department of Health officials say it left behind something nasty. About 5,000 gallons of raw sewage from the Navy vessel spilled during the late evening hours of February 7, according to the DOH.

They advise people to stay out the waters fronting the reef runway from the Keehi Channel to the Pearl Harbor channel. The area is a popular diving area for tako.

The U.S. Navy has not confirmed or denied the spill.
