HONOLULU (KHNL) - A man convicted of stabbing his cousin to death at an Ewa townhouse complex was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole Monday.

Tyler Condon maintains he was merely defending himself. He says nothing to the judge before receiving his punishment.

Prosecutors say he fatally stabbed Jake Hale, 28, at a home on Mikohu Street on Independence Day, 2007. Neighbors rushed out to help the victim after hearing his cries for help.

The Hawaii parole board will decide how much time Condon must serve before he's eligible for parole.
