HONOLULU (KHNL) - With a bleak outlook for much of this new year, shoppers are hoping for some great deals to help jump start 2009. But they say, so far it isn't as they had hoped. Shoppers looking for after-holiday deals say they're getting snubbed.

With an uncertain economy, shoppers hoped sales would last well into the new year. Many people out shopping Saturday, left without what they came for.

Some shoppers say Saturday seemed busier than what they expected. But, some people tell us the sales fell short of their expectations.

"Everyone wants to shop, you know and spend less money," Danielle Cole said. "Money is hard now, so I did wait."

Cole likes to shop for deals. Saturday, she was disappointed with what she saw at the mall.

"Usually like around holiday time, there's usually a lot like right after, but there wasn't that much this year, they're kind of slow," she said.

Slow was the theme of the day for some shoppers who tell us they bought items that only had a steep discount.

As Cole looked for some after the holiday presents for herself, she was left with near-empty bags. She also feels the Internet may be her next best option. She's now turning to the Web Site, swapagift.com. It lets people swap gift cards with others on the Internet.

"I'd rather shop online maybe because if they're not going to have sales in the stores, I'm going to find where I can spend less money and get more," she said.

Getting more for less, a sentiment felt by many shoppers in this tight economy.
