WAIKIKI (KHNL) - The Sheraton Waikiki Resort opens a new part of their $200 million dollar hotel renovation. Waikiki Hotel guests slide in to a brand new $8 million dollar pool and play area.

"There's two huge water slides," swimmer Malia Libby said.

It opens with the symbolic first water slider. "It's so fun because it's fast and everything," Libby said.

The new renovation features two swimming pools, two hot tubs, a fountain area for kids, and chaise lounges in the water. "All sorts of stuff, there's so many I don't think I could name them all," said Libby.

The Helumoa Playground sits between the Sheraton and Royal Hawaiian Hotel on historical lands.

"It's where the Aina of Hawaii and the kings and queens really lived and played so this is an amazing day for us to really now open this up to our guests and show them a new side of Waikiki," hotel general manager Kelly Sanders said.

It's not just for tourists, they offer kamaaina rates. "Your part of our ohana and we want to welcome you back to waikiki beach," Sanders said.

He says don't mistake this for a neighbor island, it's just a new side of Waikiki. Tuesday night the poolside restaurant and bar Rumfire will open with new outdoor tables by the pool.
