KHNL/K5 announces staff cuts

HONOLULU, HI (KHNL-TV)- Raycom Media, the parent company of KHNL and KFVE (K5)-TV announced staff cuts Wednesday.

The cuts come after a tough economic year for the entire media industry, as well as forecasts for a difficult year in 2009.

Raycom laid off employees at its stations nationwide, including a number of news and engineering department employees at KHNL and K5.  No on-air positions were affected by the cuts. Additionally the station announced the cancellation of KHNL News 8 Now at 11, effective immediately.

In addition to its Hawaii stations, Raycom Media owns 46 television stations in 18 states.
