WAIPIO (KHNL) - Girls soccer players on Oahu are having a ball helping the hungry this holiday season.

Several high school teams are taking part in a two-day tournament at the Waipio Soccer Complex. Host Moanalua High School is asking participants to bring non-perishable items for the Hawaii Foodbank, which feeds more than 131,000 people each year.

"How does it feel for you and your team to help people who are less fortunate like that?" this reporter asked.

"It feels good," Jennifer Blakeley, 12th grader, said. "Yeah, we just know that we're helping other people and making them feel better."

The girls will continue collecting canned goods at their tent Saturday.
