HONOLULU (KHNL) - Hot meals will be on the plates of thousands of homebound seniors statewide this Thanksgiving. The kitchen at Lanakila meals on wheels is packed. Almost 300 volunteers help put together a holiday feast complete with all the trimmings.

"The turkey, the cranberries, the pumpkin, pie, mashed potatoes," said Girl Scout Bryeana Fajota.

Volunteers like Bryeana and her mom wait to load their cars with meals. "Were going to give them some aide in enjoying a thanksgiving meal." Fajota said.

This thanksgiving 800 Oahu seniors will get a knock on the door, a hot holiday meal, and Thanksgiving greetings. "Because of my husbands situation, he has Alzheimer and he's very impatient so it's hard for me to prepare a meal so it really is a blessing." Meal recipient Gloria Ahnee said.

For 16 years, Meals on Wheels has made this special holiday delivery. "Very pleased with the service there. We have such wonderful volunteers that do bring the food to us everyday." Ahnee said.

Volunteers who bring food and friendship. "Were very thankful for our family." Ahnee said.

The program is so popular the waiting list for meals on wheels has grown to over 300 seniors. Because of the tough economic times the program is in need of more donations.
