LANAI (KHNL) - The current economic slowdown on Lanai is threatening to melt the business of what may the "coolest" shop on the island.

The "Sweetest Days Ice Cream and Candy Shop" is stocked like a kid's dream.

Jars of sugary goodness line one wall, while tubs of flavorful ice cream line the other.

This store opened with the intent of filling the role of the old time candy shopper, where children and adults were treated to something special.

"Ever since I was in high school, we had a candy shop and that was what the community was missing, an ice cream shop," said co-owner Manny Dugay. "And from there, it took off."

But layoffs on Lanai over the past year, have recently chilled sales, since most of their business comes from local residents.

Now, with an ever tightening economy, there are concerns that sales could sour even more for this business, forcing them to shut down next year.
