Matson makes sixth consecutive decrease in fuel surcharge

HONOLULU (KHNL) - As fuel prices continue to decline, Matson continues to lower its fuel surcharge.

The company announced it is lowering fuel surcharge for its Hawaii service by 4.5 percentage points, from 19.5 percent to 15 percent and its Guam/Micronesia service from 21 to 16.5 percent starting November 30.

This is the sixth consecutive decrease in fuel surcharge since September 21.

"Following an extended period in which oil costs hit historical record highs, we have been able to reduce Matson's fuel surcharge by 27.25 percentage points in a relatively short time frame," said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services.

This latest decrease represents a reduction in shipping costs ranging from $110 to $170 per container.

The overall reduction since September represents, for most customers, a decrease in shipping costs ranging from $640 to $1,015.
