MANOA (KHNL) - Less than a month removed from winning the World Series, Shane Victorino stepped to the mound and delivered the ceremonial first pitch.

It was almost a piece of cake for a Gold Glove Winner and World Series Champion. "I definitely was nervous and I was hoping I reached I think I did pretty well I threw a strike or I threw somewhat of a strike but it was definitely nice to be honored," said Victorino.

He's become Hawaii's biggest role model to young kids and even grown men, who are trying to live out their own dreams: the same way he did this season.

"For those guys I remembered sitting in those seats, in a situation where going to instruction league, playing in winter ball, and looking at them and saying you got an opportunity that most kids don't get," he said.

With his celebrity status and local hometown roots, Victorino is now giving back to the community with the start of his first annual charity golf tournament, which tees off next weekend in Maui.

"To be in a position to do that is an honor and I keep saying that a lot of these things that I'm doing, I feel honored. I've come a long way, coming from a place like Maui, being able to do this and bring a community together and give back to a community is always a great thing," said Victorino.
