HONOLULU (KHNL) - Honolulu's ocean safety officals were kept busy Thursday due to high surf on Oahu's north and west facing shores.
On the north shore, officials made one rescue at Ehukai Beach Park. A body boarder collided with a surfer at Pipeline. Lifeguards were able to rescue the body boarder and bring him to shore.
City paramedics treated and transported a man in his twenties to a local area trauma center in serious condition. The other surfer was not injured.
On the west side, it was a relatively quiet day, in terms of rescues and injuries.
Ocean safety officials encourage people to always swim at a guarded beach and consult a lifeguard about ocean conditions before going into the water.
Honolulu has the fourth-highest rents among the 100 biggest cities in the nation, a new Harvard University study concludes.
