Obama plans Hawaii trip to honor late grandmother

HONOLULU (KHNL) - President-elect Barack Obama plans to visit Hawaii in December to honor his grandmother, who passed away just one day before the election.

According to the Associated Press, Obama plans to relax with his family before he takes the reins of the federal government in January.

Campaign officials will not specify when he will arrive.

His maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died after a long battle with cancer.  She was 86.

Last month, he left the campaign trail to spend time with his grandmother right before she died.

He only stayed in Hawaii for 22 hours.
