HONOLULU (KHNL) - Senator Barack Obama's grandmother passed away Sunday but her vote will still be counted.

The Hawaii elections office received an absentee ballot from Madelyn Dunham on October 27. It was processed like any other absentee ballot.

According to state laws, an absentee ballot cast by someone who dies before Election Day will be discarded, but only if certification of death is received from the state Department of Health before the election.

State elections chief Kevin Cronin says the elections office did not receive a list of deceased residents from health department that included Dunham's name.
