Grant available for graduating Maui students

WAILUKU, Maui (KHNL) - A $60,000 grant is available for Maui students graduating in 2009.  The funds will support Project Graduation programs.

Mayor Charmaine Tavares says promoting alcohol and drug free events for youth is important, especially during graduation ceremonies.

"It's necessary to support efforts like Project Graduation that offer youth an alternative way to celebrate their milestone achievement," said Mayor Tavares.

High schools may apply for a maximum grant of $5,000.  Deadline to submit applications is December 19.

Applications are available at the Dept. of Housing & Human concerns' Volunteer Center in Wailuku.
