Former Honolulu police officer found guilty of state tax crimes

HONOLULU (KHNL) - A former Honolulu police officer has been found guilty on two counts of Attempt to Evade Tax and two counts of Wilful Failure to File Return on his 2003 and 2004 taxes.

Prosecutors say William Gasper tried to evade paying state taxes by falsely claiming to be exempt from paying state taxes on his Form HW-4, and failed to timely file his individual state income tax returns and pay his state income taxes.

Gasper could face up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 9, 2009.
