HONOLULU (KHNL) - With Christmas just a couple months away, tis' the season for retailers to be hiring.

Like every year, the Honolulu Cookie Company is expecting a lot of business this holiday season. They're not only stocking up on plenty of products but people to sell them.

Job fairs are ideal for those hoping to earn some extra holiday cash.

The Honolulu Cookie Company at Ward Centre has several positions open for temporary and long term employment.

Christopher Nelson is no stranger to rough economic times and will take what he can get.

"I'm a survivor so whatever I have to adjust to if they want seasonal or career employee I'm flexible," said Nelson.

With dozens of applicants expected during this two day job fair, the competion will be tough.

"If they can make me feel comfortable, if I was a customer in the store than that's one of the first things we look for," said Cheryl Gallagher of the Honolulu Cookie Company.

Christopher Nelson likes his chances, in addition to great customer service skills, and being a team player, he speaks Japanese. Many of Honolulu Cookie Companies customers are tourists from Japan, but in this business like all others it's all about making a profit.

"As long as I sell a lot of cookies, I think I'll be okay," said Nelson.

While Cheryl Gallagher knows the economic slump can be stressful for unemployed people, she believes the job fair will help bring in some qualified candidates.

"We've been able to attract some employees that perhaps wouldn't have looked otherwise," said Gallagher.

In less than a month applicants will find out if they are worthy of working for one of the most popular stores here.

The dough they'll be making at the Honolulu Cookie Company is $9 an hour for part-timers and $10 for full-time employees.
