Drowning victims on Kauai identified

PRINCEVILLE, Kauai (KHNL) - Kauai police have released the identities of three people who drowned on Kauai Sunday.

Police say 33-year-old Heather Westphal from Washington, D.C. and her sister in law, 39-year-old Tonya Cataldo from Parker, Colorado were walking along Queen's Bath just before 3:00 p.m. when they were swept out to sea by a large wave.

Fire fighters and lifeguards retrieved their bodies.

In a separate incident, 74-year-old Hiroaki Kinjo from Japan drowned while snorkeling at Kauai Sands beach in Kapaa.

He was found unresponsive in the water by a body surfer.  Bystanders tried to resuscitate him until medics arrived.

He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
