DLNR begins sewer improvements at Queen Emma Summer Palace

HONOLULU (KHNL) - As part of the state's continuing efforts to upgrade state facilities, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will start construction of sewer improvements at Queen Emma Summer Palace.

The DLNR is closing the large capacity cesspool which services the restrooms at the Summer Palace.

Construction will also include installing a sewage pump station.

Workers will excavate the open field area on the palace property and do excavation and trenching of a section of the Nuuanu Valley Park parking lot and Puiwa Road for the sewer line connection.

"It is especially important that we properly maintain cultural landmarks like the Queen Emma Summer Palace in order to preserve the history of our islands," said DLNR chairperson Laura H. Thielen.

The Queen Emma Summer Palace will remain open to the public and the restrooms will remain open until the time of the sewer hook-up.

Construction begins Monday, October 13.

Project completion is expected by the end of this year.
