Kamaole Beach Parks closed briefly due to shark sighting

SOUTH KIHEI, Maui (KHNL) - Kamaole Beach Parks 1, 2 and 3 were closed for several hours Friday afternoon due to a confirmed sighting of a 10-foot tiger shark.

Earlier reports indicated the shark was 8 feet in length.

The shark was observed feeding on a turtle.

DLNR and County Ocean Safety officials closed the beaches at 12:55 p.m. while they monitored the ocean.

No injuries were reported.

All three parks were reopened at 4:15 p.m.
