Honolulu International Airport economy parking to temporarily close

HONOLULU (KHNL) -The Honolulu International Airport economy parking lot located at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive will be closing temporarily effective Monday, October 6, due to the decrease in parking demand.

Ampco Parking Systems will not allow vehicles to park in the Economy Lot if a traveler's return flight is after October 5th, as all vehicles must be picked up by 12:00 midnight on October 5th.

"Airport parking demand is not as pressing of an issue as it was in the past couple of years and after reassessing the situation, this is an opportunity to reduce our operational costs," said Airports Deputy Director Brian Sekiguchi. "We will continue to monitor the overall parking situation at the airport and when necessary, will offer alternatives for parking when we anticipate heavy resident travel."

Construction of the new 1,800 stall parking structure should be completed prior to the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
