Fire burns down warehouse near Nimitz Highway

NIMITZ (KHNL) -- A military warehouse was burnt down today.

The building fire happened around 12:30 p.m. It was on Catlin Drive near the Nimitz Highway. Smoke engulfed the entire building. More than 50 firefighters were on scene struggling to keep the fire from spreading to other areas.

"They didn't tell us until after when the smoke got bad and said to stay in your house or leave and get into your car because they don't know what type of gases or chemicals were in the warehouse that's burning up," said Lester Silva, who lives nearby.

The fire was under control about an hour later. One of the firefighters was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.

Chopper 8 was right over the fire and caught exclusive video. Stay tuned for more live, local late-breaking news.
