HONOLULU (KHNL) - Split expert opinions have delayed a judge from making his decision on whether an accused child killer is fit to stand trial.

Matthew Higa is accused of throwing 23-month old Cyrus Belt off a freeway overpass.

A three-member panel of experts was asked to evaluate his mental ability to stand trial.

After their findings, two said he was capable, and Tuesday, the third found him unfit to understand and assist in the criminal trial.

The defense says because both parties have the right to contest the findings, the judge is delaying his decision until a undetermined date.
