Mayor Hannemann welcomes all to special 'Sunset' events

LAIE (KHNL) - Several free outdoor events will take place this weekend in Laie and Kailua, and Mayor Mufi Hannemann welcomes everyone to join in on the fun.

The events will feature movies, entertainment, vendors and much more.

Hannemann says he's always wanted to have a Sunset event in Laie.

"I'm very pleased to bring a Sunset event back to Kailua so that residents won't have to drive to Waikiki to participate," said Hannemann.  "The City is very happy to provide services that will make these events fun, safe and successful."

This is the first ever "Sunset on the Beach" event in Laie and the first such event in Kailua since 2002.

"Laie Sunset at the Beach" details:

  • Friday, Sept. 12, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Kokololio (Kekela) Beach Park, featuring the movie "Game Plan."
  • Continues on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., featuring the movie "National Treasure II."
  • Movies will start at approximately 7:15 p.m. each night.
  • This drug- and alcohol-free event is being co-sponsored by the Koolauloa Community Health and Wellness Center and Turtle Bay Resort.

"Rediscover Kailua Family Festival" details:

  • Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Kailua District Park, featuring the movie "Game Plan."
  • Continues Sunday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., featuring the movie "Enchanted."
  • Movies will start at approximately 7:15 p.m. each night.
  • The "Rediscover Kailua Family Festival" is being co-sponsored by the Kailua Mustangs Pop Warner Association.
