Barbara Fischlowitz-Leong was first in line for the grand opening of Whole Foods Market in Kahala Mall. She's waited decades for a health food store of this size to come to Hawaii.
"The opportunity to have some different choices than we've had for the past 30-years," said Fischlowitz-Leong.
Some of the products can be found at other Whole Foods Markets across the country and in Canada and the United Kingdom but Whole Foods Hawaii offers a wide range of local foods.
"These are all tropical fruits grown in Hawaii, this is a perfect fit, we can't find this locally grown anywhere else in any of our other stores," said Claire Sullivan of Whole Foods Market.
"They have some good mangos so I got nice mangos they were kind of giving out samples too so it was good, Fuji apples," said customer George Yanai.
There are even pictures of the farmers displayed with their fruits and other products. This helps the consumer identify with the producers of their food.
"The fact that they're going to use local vendors means the quality is going to be really fresh food."
Supporting local farmers, and employing local people to help provide a nutritious alternative in the foods we eat.
"We're a health conscious community and this is good healthy stuff."
